Information

The pilgrimage church is dedicated to the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church is from the 17th century but building of the church was finished completely in the first half of the 20th century. Inside of the church, there is a miraculous copy of the statuette of the Virgin Mary de Foy. This statuette was brought there by Marshall Ludvik Raduit de Souches.
Healing spring:
The existence of the local healing spring in the valley of the stream Svatoňovce is known from old legends. It had been a sacred and spiritual centre of the region for many years. Step by step, Hluboké Mašůvky changed into a well-known pilgrimage place and a small spa. People travelled there not only to recover from their illnesses but mainly because they wanted to renew and fortify their faith by meeting with God´s grace.
Healing:
The first healing of a person, which is documented in writing, is from the time before the Thirty Years´ War. Krukensteinhauser from town Kroměříž was healed. He was staying in Mašůvky for four weeks. Local inhabitants gave him the advice to drink from the spring. He did it and he was recovered. The same thing happened to his stepson Ondřej Bruner. They were grateful for their healing, so they repaired the path to the spring. There had already been a wooden chapel on a hill above the spring. After the healing of these two men, the popularity of the place has grown, and the place has been rebuilt slowly.
Statuette of the Virgin Mary de Foy:
Statuette of the Virgin Mary de Foy was given to the church by Jan Ludvik Raduit De De Souches. According to a legend, the Marshall got it as spoils of war during the Thirty Years´ War in Belgium. He took the statuette everywhere with him, even if he was a Protestant (Hugenot). He converted to Catholicism after saving Brno from the Swedish attack. He was probably influenced by Fr. Martin Středa. The statuette of the Virgin Mary is probably a copy of a similar statuette from the pilgrimage place De Foy. It was found in De Foy in 1609. When they wanted to cut down a big oak tree for making a ship, they found the statuette and a strand of woman hair in a hole of an oak trunk. The statuette and the strand are symbols of the virgin consecration.
